An alliance of organizations committed to supporting a clean energy economy in Illinois led by Chicago-based manufacturing and hardtech innovation center mHUB.

CTEC includes 16 funded partners and additional supporting partners from across Illinois that seek to ensure Illinois emerges as a national and global leader in the clean tech economy in a way that promotes opportunity and environmental justice for all communities at the local level.
6 Strategic Projects
CTEC partnering organizations are rallied around six major initiatives related to manufacturing and supply chain, workforce development, applied research, entrepreneurship and commercialization, and infrastructure in Illinois.
Driving The Midwest’s Future Clean Economy
CTEC was formed in 2021 in response to the U.S. Economic Development Administration BBBRC and was selected as a Phase 1 finalist from a pool of 529 national applicants. It was the only finalist from the state of Illinois. The Coalition is focused on a multi-year strategy to make Illinois and the Midwest a leader in clean energy technologies..

1: iNNOVATION
Create an innovation network for product developers and construction industries including an incubator, makerspace, and community programming targeting BIPOC and women
Organizations: mHUB, Evergreen Climate Innovations, Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce, Elevate Energy
2: APPLIED RESEARCH
Create a cleantech incubator focused on energy programs, commercializing breakthrough innovation from research
conducted by Argonne National
Laboratory with community programming.

3: Supply Chain Sustainability
Conduct a supply chain needs assessment, target specific manufacturers for retooling for growth, and provide technical assistance while reducing the carbon footprint of manufacturers.

4: Workforce Development
Convene industry and community partners to assess workforce needs, design industry-led training programs and expanding training capacity throughout the state.

5: Grid Modernization
Conduct microgrid research and testing, create electric vehicle (EV) and microgrid programs, study the impact of EV deployment in rural settings, and research microgrid testing and deployment in opportunity zones.

6: Electric Vehicles
Install 115 EV chargers in disinvested communities in south suburban Cook County as well as test feasibility of EV buses and car-share programs in transportation deserts.
